Main field(s) of study with specialisation

Rule:

Specify where applicable. Courses that include a degree project can only be included in one main field of study and/or one professional qualification.

Questions to consider:

  • How does the course relate to the entry requirements and to subsequent courses in the progressive specialisation within the main field of study?
  • Is the course relevant to all the main fields of study in which it may be included?
  • Is there a risk that too many courses are included in the same main field of study? (For a Bachelor's degree, 90 credits within the main field of study are normally required; for a Master's degree [one-year], 30 credits are normally required.) Primarily, the courses that form the core of the degree should be included in the main field of study. The more courses that are included, the more alternative pathways to the degree are made possible, increasing the risk that students do not take fundamental courses.
  • Has the person responsible for the main field of study been informed of and agreed to any changes to the course content?

Progression indicator (fördjupningskod)

Rule:

For courses that are included in a main field of study, the course’s progression indicator must be specified in accordance with the SUHF recommendations on designations indicating the course’s place in the progressive specialisation in the main field of study for general qualifications and identifying courses that include a degree project:

G1N first cycle, has only upper secondary level entry requirements
G1F first cycle, has less than 60 credits course/s at the first cycle as entry requirements
G1E first cycle, contains a specially designed degree project for a higher education qualification

G2F first cycle, has less than 60 credits course/s at first cycle as entry requirements
G2E first cycle, has at least 60 credits course/s at first cycle as entry requirements
includes a degree project for a Degree of Bachelor

A1N second cycle, has only course/s at the first-cycle level as entry requirements
A1F second cycle, has course/s at the second-cycle level as entry requirements
A1E second cycle, includes a degree project for a one-year Degree of Master
A2E second cycle, includes a degree project for a two-year Degree of Master

For courses that are not included in the main field of study, these designations are used:  GXX (first cycle) and AXX (second cycle).

Question to consider:

  • Does the progression indicator (fördjupningskod) match the entry requirements?
