Rule:
List the forms of assessment in a bulleted list. To enable students to understand in advance how they will be assessed in a course and thereby ensure legal certainty and transparency, course syllabuses must clearly state the forms of assessment that will be used.
The policy document titled Regler för examination på grund- och avancerad nivå states the specific provisions for the following forms of assessment:
- Written examination (written, invigilated (supervised) on-campus)
- Supplement for digital written examinations
- Online examination (written, digital examination, online)
- Written assessment assignment (take-home examination, assignment submission, reflective journal, laboratory report, etc.)
- Supplement for degree project/independent project
- Continuous assessment
- Placement (VFU)
Other forms of assessment may also be used, for example:
- Oral examination (seminar, individual oral assessment task, etc.)
- Practical examination
Tips:
The course syllabus should not specify which forms of assessment apply for each course component (delkurs/modul). The reporting of grades and credits should not be linked to specific oral or written assessment sessions, labs, exams, or similar. Instead, credits should be linked to content-based units (delkurser/moduler), which may in turn be assessed through one or several different forms of assessment.
Questions to consider:
- Are the forms of assessment in the course clearly specified?
- Do the forms of assessment align with the learning outcomes, that is, can the outcomes be appropriately assessed using the specified forms of assessment?
- Are the forms of assessment described in too much detail?
- Do the specified forms of assessment allow for assessment at the different grade levels that are in the selected grading scale?
