Inaugurated as a professor
To be inaugurated as a professor, you must have been offered and accepted employment between October 1, 2024 and September 30, 2026. You cannot have been previously inaugurated at Dalarna University. Only permanent employees and adjunct professors are inaugurated.
The following applies if you have stated that you will attend the ceremony:
- Read the information and please respect the deadlines.
- Submit text and a photograph for the ceremonial publication "Högtidsskriften".
- Give your inaugural lecture.
- Attend a general rehearsal of ceremony proceedings.
- Attend lunch with the Governor of Dalarna County at the Governor’s residence in Falun.
- Attend the ceremony and banquet.
You will receive updates (a newsletter) from hogtid@du.se to your university email address. This will keep you updated on ceremony planning and important deadlines.
The inauguration - also called installation - of professors is a tradition that dates back to the Middle Ages. It has its roots in the ecclesiastical tradition of installing newly appointed cathedral priests (also known as canons) in the choir stalls (stallum in Latin).

October/November 2026 – information meetings
We invite you to attend one or both of our information meetings to find out about the Academic Ceremony at Dalarna University and your role in this event. There will be an opportunity to ask questions. Attendance is voluntary.
November 2026 – deadline to submit text
You must confirm your intention to attend the Academic Ceremony by (date will be updated later) November 2026. Do this by submitting the electronic form on this webpage and submitting your text for the ceremony booklet (Högtidsskriften):

January 2027 – information and photos

January 2027 – deadline for title and abstract for the installation lecture
Submit the title and a short description (abstract) of your installation lecture (maximum 500 characters, including spaces) by this date. Send these to hogtid@du.se.
February 2027 – deadline for feedback on the presentation
Would you like feedback on your presentation? Send your material to hogtid@du.se by (date will be updated later) February to receive comments.
February 2027 – register your attendance
Please register your attendance at the Academic Ceremony by (date will be updated later) February 2027.
March 2027 – deadline for the final presentation
The final presentation (PPT or a similar format) must be submitted no later than 12:00 (noon) on (date will be updated later) March. Send your final presentation to hogtid@du.se.
March 2027 – inaugural lectures
The schedule will be updated in autumn 2026.
All professors gather in the library at Campus Falun.
March 2027 – general rehearsal, Borlänge
The schedule will be updated in autumn 2026.
General rehearsal at Galaxen, Borlänge: attendees receive information about the procedures for the ceremony.
Everyone who will be honoured at the ceremony needs to attend the rehearsal.
March 2027 – day of the Academic Ceremony, Falun and Borlänge
The schedule will be updated in autumn 2026.
- Lunch for the Vice-Chancellor and new professors at the residence of the Governor of Dalarna County in Falun
- Photos at Galaxen, Borlänge, with new professors and the Vice-Chancellor
- Procession – all who are being honoured should gather in their designated places in Galaxen, Borlänge. Other guests must have taken their seats
- Academic Ceremony
- Welcome drink and banquet
- Banquet ends
Registration: ceremony and banquet
The Academic Ceremony and banquet will be held at Galaxen in Borlänge. Everyone who will be honoured needs to register themself and all their accompanying guests to the banquet.
- The University invites new professors to attend the banquet with one guest at no cost.
- You may invite two additional guests to attend the banquet at a subsidised cost.
- We recommend that guests be at least 15 years old.

Dress code: ceremony and banquet
For professors being inaugurated, the dress code is formal attire. Read more about the dress code (and what applies to accompanying guests) in the FAQ.
