Evaluations of First- and Second-Cycle Education
The purpose of the evaluations is to drive quality improvement. The evaluations follow a six‑year cycle and normally include all courses, main fields of study, and programmes for which a subject is responsible.
The documentation to be included in an evaluation consists of, among other things
- Self‑evaluation
- List of active teaching staff
- Matrix showing the relationship between courses, learning outcomes, and levels of specialisation
- Selection of course handbooks, course analyses, and programme analyses
- Feedback collected from students, teachers, and departmental management
Implementation of the Evaluations
- With support from administrative services and the school, the subject prepares the documentation. The responsible school ensures that the documentation is adequate for review by external experts.
- The University Education and Research Board (UFN) appoints external subject experts based on proposals from the subject/school.
- The experts must have at least a doctoral degree in the subject or a closely related field. At least one expert must hold the qualifications of professor or associate professor.
- The experts review the written documentation, conduct interviews, and provide a joint statement. After reporting back to the subject, the experts propose a recommendation to UFN.
- UFN establishes a final statement, which the school must respond to through an action plan.
