The purpose is to develop pedagogical experiences, create international contacts, and strengthen cooperation between Swedish and foreign universities.
At ASU, I am teaching the Exploring Data in R and Python course for students in mathematics and statistics. It has been an intense but inspiring experience – meeting new student groups, teaching in a different educational environment and adapting the course structure to local conditions.
Parallel to this, I am continuing my research work in algorithmic pricing and data analysis. At ASU there are good opportunities to participate in seminars both as a listener and by presenting your own research, which provides new perspectives and collaborations.
A very clear difference compared to Sweden is the organisation of teaching. ASU has paid teaching assistants and an extensive administrative structure, which can sometimes create challenges in communication but at the same time illustrates a completely different scale of resources.
Life in Arizona also leaves a strong cultural impression. American football is a natural part of campus culture, and there is a tangible pride around the university's sports teams. In my free time, I plan to travel to discover the nature of the state and the country - from Sedona and Flagstaff to the Grand Canyon and later also the California coast.
In summary, this sabbatical provides valuable insights for both teaching and research, while providing personal experiences which I hope can inspire others to seek similar opportunities. And finally, I can't complain about escaping the winter darkness during the coming autumn.
