The Master Programme in African Studies offers a unique opportunity for multidisciplinary studies of Africa; one of the most fascinating and diverse regions in the world. This advanced degree programme provides an excellent foundation for students who wish to gain further knowledge of the history, religion, culture and political economy of various parts of Africa. This may lead on to work either in Africa or in fields related to Africa, working for NGOs, international organisations, the media etc., or to further career opportunities including research on Africa.

The uniqueness of the African Studies Master's programme at Dalarna University, the only one in Sweden, is the large number of incoming guest lecturers from around 20 partner universities in Europe and Africa. Autumn term 2011 the African Studies Programme had 19 visiting lecturers, all distinguished and internationally recognised specialists on various parts of Africa. This enables us to offer a unique and advanced teaching on the diverse and multifaceted continent that is Africa. As one of our students said: 'for a similar education one would have to go to many universities in Europe or in Africa, while here it's all under one roof'.

The African Studies programme is hosted by Dalarna University Centre for African Studies (DUCAS). The academic partners of DUCAS are the Universities of Bologna and Oulu (Finland). DUCAS also collaborates actively with the Nordic Africa Institute.

Africa Days at Dalarna University

Since 2006 DUCAS has annually been hosting Africa Days at Dalarna University for invited guest lecturers from the African Studies partneruniversties in Europe and Africa, students of the African Studies Master Programme and the interested public in Dalarna and Sweden.
