The University Library provides support and advice on issues relating to research and academic publishing. This includes DiVA, Open Access, bibliometrics, ORCID, reference management and the allocation of ISBN/ISSN for reports and theses.

DiVA

DiVA is Dalarna University's publications database. It contains research publications and degree theses. As a doctoral student, researcher or teacher at Dalarna University you are required to register your academic publications in DiVA.

Open Access

Open Access refers to the free availability of research results online. EU, the Swedish Government and several key research funders require research results to be published Open Access. Dalarna University recommends that doctoral students and researchers publish Open Access.

Bibliometrics

Bibliometrics is a term given to a range of quantitative methods used to analyse research publications. DiVA, Web of Science and the Norwegian model are some of the data sources used in analyses. At Dalarna University, bibliometric analysis is conducted by the library.

Publishing of Doctoral and Licentiate Theses

Dalarna University's theses are published in the series Dalarna Doctoral Dissertations and Dalarna Licentiate Theses. Dalarna University's theses must be registered, including full text, in DiVA.

The printed version of your thesis is compiled through cooperation with Thesis Production at Uppsala University Library.

Electronic posting is mandatory and must be done at least three weeks before the public defence. Traditional posting with hammer and nail is voluntary. You post your thesis by registering it in Dalarna University's DiVA.

Dalarna University's Report Series

The University's main report series:

  • Arbetsrapport/Högskolan Dalarna
  • Kultur och Lärande
  • Interkulturellt utvecklingscentrum Dalarna (IKUD)
  • Working papers in transport, tourism, information technology, and microdata analysis

Each publication is assigned certain mandatory information such as an ISBN, ISSN or a serial number. All of the University’s report series are required to be registered with full text in DiVA.

ORCID is a unique international identifier for researchers. Researchers at Dalarna University are strongly encouraged to create an ORCID ID as a means of ensuring correct attribution of research publications.

Dalarna University’s course General Principles of Scientific Work: Introductory Course, 7.5 credits, contains a module on searching for information in databases managed by the library.

NVivo – Analysis of qualitative data

NVivo is a software that facilitates qualitative data analysis (QDA). It is a program where you in a systematic way can gather and structure both your material and your ideas for a project. NVivo can help you find different connections in the material. Dalarna University has a campus license for the program, which can be downloaded via the company portal. If you want help getting started, the library can offer an introduction to NVivo.
