Kevin McKee disputerade 1986 i psykologi vid University of Stirling, Skottland. Han blev 1994 lektor vid institutionen för äldres hälsovård vid University of Sheffield och 2003 universitetslektor vid Sheffield Institute for Studies on Ageing. Han flyttade 2009 till Sverige i samband med att han utnämndes till professor inom äldreområdet vid Högskolan Dalarna och Dalarnas Forskningsråd.
Kevin McKees forskning omfattar konsekvenserna av försämrad fysisk och psykisk funktionsförmåga för äldres livskvalitet. Forskningen fokuserar på tre huvudområden: Metoder för bedömning av livskvaliteten hos sköra äldre personer, faktorer som främjar välbefinnande hos äldre omsorgstagare och anhörigvårdare, samt äldre personers psykologiska respons på händelser som är negativa för deras hälsa, exempelvis fall. Hans forskning har bland annat finansierats av brittiska forskningsråd och EU.
