Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • express themselves actively at the basic level
  • handle simple grammatical structures
  • read and write about 200-300 characters
  • use the Pinyin Romanization system
  • pronounce the Chinese language sounds and identify how these differ from English/Swedish
  • use a Pinyin Chinese-English dictionary.

Course Content

The course consists of two parts, oral skills 4 ECTS-credits and written skills 3.5 ECTS-credits. Students practice listening to and speaking Chinese as well as recognizing and writing characters. They also work with phonological aspects of Chinese.

Assessment

Grades are based on class performance as well as a written exam.

Forms of Study

English is used as a support language in lectures and seminars.

Grades

The Swedish grades U–VG.

For VG on the whole at least 4 ECTS-credits VG are needed.

Prerequisites

  • General entry requirements and English 6. No knowledge of Swedish is required
