Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • explain basic concepts relating to GIS
  • obtain and use geographic data that is publicly available
  • explain the basic principles of cartography
  • produce simple maps using GIS software
  • conduct basic analyses using GIS software

Course Content

The course introduces basic theoretical and practical knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). It covers fundamental cartographic principles for creating thematic maps as well as various methods for processing and analysing geographical data. In addition, the course explores the way geographic data can be obtained from different authorities, the production of simple maps using GIS software, and the application of methods for geographic data analysis.

The grading scale used for the final course grade is U–VG.
