Apply for Educational Support
If you have a disability, then you are welcome to apply for educational support.
- Use the NAIS system to apply: attach documentation confirming your disability. You can scan this or you can upload a photo of your documentation using your mobile phone.
- The disability coordinator will contact you to book an appointment to discuss the support we can offer. The appointment can be held on Campus Falun or Campus Borlänge, on Zoom or by phone.
- The disability coordinator makes the decision on educational support. Before each course, you must contact the teacher and the examiner, present the decision to them and talk about any necessary adaptations to the course.
Sometimes, it can take time to coordinate the support that works for you personally, so be sure to contact us well ahead of time.

Examples of Support
Are you a student with a disability that means a constant physical, psychological or cognitive limitation to your ability to study? If you are, we encourage you to seek pedagogical support.
Recorded Literature
Students with reading disabilities have the right to lend adapted course literature: for example, talking books, Braille or e-textbooks. You can lend compulsory course literature free of charge from the Swedish Agency for Accessible Media (MTM). To download books, you need first to create an account with MTM. Library staff can help you with this. Immediate access is possible to books that are already available in talking book form. You can request the production of a new talking book, but it may take up to ten weeks before you receive it. It is important that you contact the library as soon as you can if you know you will be needing talking books or adapted literature.
Examination Modifications
You may require alternative arrangements when it comes to examinations – for example, you may require additional time. The disability coordinator can make decisions relating to general examination arrangements but is restricted to only being able to recommend adjustments to alternative examination forms. The final decision is that of the course teacher.
Mentors
If you have a neuropsychiatric diagnosis, such as ADHD or ADD, or an autism spectrum disorder, you may be granted support from a mentor to help you structure your university studies or prioritise your work. A mentor – often another student – can serve as your sounding board during your studies, that is to say, someone you can discuss your ideas with.
Note-Taking Assistance
If your disability prevents you from being able to take your own notes during lectures and seminars, you can receive help from a peer student who can take notes for you as a back-up for your own notes.
Interpreter Support
If you have a hearing impairment, the University is responsible for ensuring you receive sign-language or writing assistance during instruction. If you need the help of an interpreter, you must inform the disability coordinator well ahead of the start of your course(s) – preferably at the same time as you apply to a course or programme.
Resource Room/Computer Room
Both Campus Falun and Campus Borlänge have a resource room for students with disabilities. There you can find computers that are equipped with the following: speech synthesis programs, advanced spelling programs, reading pen and more. Contact the disability coordinator so that you can get authorised access to these resource rooms.
Other Forms of Support

Sometimes, it can take time to organise the support that works for you personally, so be sure to contact us well ahead of time after receiving your admission decision.
