Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • delimit and investigate problems or phenomena within one of the fields Chinese literature, linguistics, culture studies or business culture
  • account for the pros and cons of different research strategies and methods for collecting, interpreting and/or analyzing research material
  • plan research projects within one of the areas Chinese literature, linguistics, culture studies or business culture
  • put together a research plan including relevant material, and critically evaluate it
  • discuss and explain the concepts of plagiarism and academic integrity
  • give constructive criticism on the work of another and respond to others‘ criticism in an objective way
  • demonstrate a critical, analytical, and reflective attitude.

Course Content

In this course, students study various examples of basic research methods that are commonly used in research about Chinese literature, linguistics, culture studies or business culture. Based on these examples, students will be given a number of assignments that are finished either in groups or individually and discussed in seminars. They will choose a topic and write a detailed project description for a research assignment. This assignment will be presented and defended.

Assessment

Assessment is based on the project description and a number of written assignments, and on constructive participation in lectures and seminars. The project description will be presented and defended at a seminar.

Forms of Study

Both Chinese and English are used as the languages of tuition. Teaching is done in the form of lectures and seminars.

Grades

The Swedish grades U–VG.

Prerequisites

  • 120 credits at First cycle, of which 60 credits in Chinese, including the course Chinese in speech and writing IV, 15 credits First cycle level 1 and one 7,5 credits course in Chinese at First cycle level 2, or equivalent knowledge
