Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course, students should be able to:
- display familiarity with important aspects of emerging trends in Chinese society and culture (from the post-Mao era to the present), including: ethnicity, gender, family life, cuisine, social etiquette, urbanization, and fashion
- read and discuss articles (in English and in Chinese) about the above topics concerning Chinese contemporary culture
- use of the reqired key vocabulary in the above areas, which will enable them to analyze and discuss these complex topics
- use Chinese to express their thoughts and opinions about topics related to the above areas orally and in writing.
Course Content
This course covers a range of topics related to Chinese modern culture. The course content is mainly organized in thematic topics. In addition, this course offers training in oral presentation and writing skills.
Assessment
This course uses continuous assessment of students’ oral and written performance. There are oral reports as well as a final shorter paper.
Forms of Study
Both Chinese and English are used as the language of tuition. Teaching is done in the form of seminars and group activities.
Grades
The Swedish grades U–VG.
Prerequisites
- A minimum of 90 credits in Chinese at undergraduate level
