Learning Outcomes
In this course, students will continue to build their skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing Mandarin Chinese. On successful completion of this course, they will be able to:
- comprehend spoken Chinese at a fairly normal speaking rate on familiar topics
- converse with native speakers of Chinese with accurate pronunciation and tones, on a variety of topics
- understand an additional 350 Chinese characters (total 750 characters in the first year)
- handle approximately 100 sentence structures in Chinese
- write approximately 400 simplified Chinese characters, in correct stroke order.
Course Content
This is a comprehensive language course that consists of two modules, aiming to help students build a strong basis of Chinese proficiency in four aspects:
- Speaking and Listening: listening to text recordings, watching video clips, dictations, pronunciation drills, sentence pattern drills, group activities and individual presentation help the students develop their communicative abilities in Chinese.
- Reading and Writing: through a great amount of exposure to Chinese characters, analysis of grammar points and translation practices combined with written assignments, the students continue developing their abilities of reading and writing sentences and passages in Chinese.
Assessment
The course is examined in the form of two modules: Speaking and Listening (7,5 cr) and Reading and Writing (7,5 cr). The two modules are assessed continuously, orally and in writing, and with a final written examination.
Forms of Study
Chinese is used as the language of tuition, supported by English or Swedish. Teaching is done in the form of seminars, group work and different individual online activities.

The Swedish grades U–VG.

Prerequisites
- A minimum of 30 credits in Chinese at undergraduate level
