Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course, students will be able to
  • show knowledge and understanding of the chosen research field for the thesis, an awareness of the scientific background of the field, a knowledge about applied methodology in the field research, an in depth-knowledge in some part of the field and an awareness of current research issues;
  • demonstrate an ability to search for, collect, evaluate and critically interpret and analyse relevant information in a research question and critically discuss the key issue;
  • show an ability to independently identify, formulate and solve the research question and conduct the study within the fixed given time;
  • demonstrate an ability, both orally and in writing, to present and argue for information, problems and possible solutions;
  • show the skills needed to work independently and to finish the research; and
  • show an ability to identify the need of further knowledge and competence.

Course Content

The student chooses the field he/she wants to investigate within one of the following fields: Italian linguistics, literature or culture. The course deals with the planning and the realisation of a written report in form of an essay. The course consists also of more in-depth studies on research methodology and academic writing.

Assessment

The course is examined through active seminar participation, handing in of the different steps in the essay writing within the given time and an oral presentation. The student’s defence of his/her essay and his/her ability to respond critically to another student’s written work are also assessed.

Forms of Study

The course, which is completely web-based, is taught in the form of lectures and seminars and individual supervision.

Grades

The Swedish grades U–VG.

Prerequisites

  • Italian Written Proficiency II 7,5cr; Italian 18th, 19th and 20th Century Literature, 7,5cr and History of the Italian Language, 7,5cr or equivalent knowledge.
