Learning Outcomes
This course aims to develop students‘ linguistic abilities in Chinese, and deepen their understanding of current social issues in Chinese society.
On completion of the course, students shall be able to:
- formulate and apply arguments from different perspectives on various topics with a degree of flexibility and spontaneity
- read and comprehend articles in different kinds of newspapers and magazines
- understand the main messages in literary works and academic texts
- write shorter texts in modern written Chinese
- independently develop their vocabulary and sentence structure.
Course Content
In this course, students will develop their vocabulary in terms of both amount and range. Students will learn to handle complex grammar and receive training on reading and understanding formal Chinese by studying different types of newspaper and magazine articles. Students will develop their linguistic and argumentative proficiency by motivating their opinions on socio-cultural subjects both orally and in writing.
Assessment
Continuous assessment of active participation in obligatory seminars and written assignments as well as a final written examination and oral examination.
Forms of Study
Chinese is used as the language of tuition, supported by English or Swedish. Teaching is in the form of obligatory seminars.
Grades
The Swedish grades U–VG.
To achieve the grade of VG for the whole course, students must achieve VG in both modules.

Module 1: Speaking and Listening - 7.5 cr
module 2: Reading and Writing - 7.5 cr
Prerequisites
- 100 credits in Chinese, including the course Chinese in speech and writing IV, 15 credits at First Cycle
