Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course, students will, in French, be able to:
- analyse and reflect on linguistic variation with regard to linguistic registers and sociolects
- explain and discuss pronunciation variations in different parts of the French-speaking world
- interact orally in different situations and adapt the language to different contexts
- argue orally in a convincing manner.
Course Content
The course includes studies of how pronunciation varies in different geographical areas of the French-speaking world. It also includes studies on linguistic variation with regard to linguistic registers and sociolects as well as exercises in understanding different variants of spoken French and in communicating in French in different situations and on different subjects. The course further includes studies and exercises in argumentation in spoken French.
Assessment
Students are assessed continuously based on their active participation in seminars,oral presentations and written assignments.
Forms of Study
Teaching consists of lectures and obligatory seminars, where students should participate actively. Instruction is in French.
Grades
The Swedish grades U–VG.
To achieve the grade of VG in the whole course, students must achieve a VG in both modules.
Reporting of grades:
Module 1: Active Participation in Seminars and Oral Presentations - 5 cr
Module 2: Written Assignments - 2.5 cr
Prerequisites
- French Written Proficiency I, 7.5 credits, French Oral Proficiency, 7.5 credits, French Literature I: From 1900 to the Present Day, 7.5 credits and French: Culture and Society I, 7.5 credits on First cycle
- No knowledge of Swedish is required.
