Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course, students shall, in good French, be able to:

  • analyse, interpret and discuss a selection of literary works from the French-speaking world
  • discuss and problematise the French-speaking world and various aspects of “la Francophonie“
  • analyse and problematise historical, cultural, literary and linguistic aspects of these countries/regions
  • apply scientific literary methods
  • demonstrate the ability to independently complete a short essay that meets basic literary requirements, and reflect on the writing process.

Course Content

In the course, a selection of fictional works are discussed in relation to the historical and social development of French-speaking countries. The course includes a study of the French-speaking world from a historical, literary, cultural and linguistic perspective. The course also includes scientific literary methods.

Assessment

Continuous assessment of active participation in seminars, written assignments and a short essay.

Forms of Study

Lectures and obligatory seminars. The language of instruction is French.

Grades

The Swedish grades U–VG.

To achieve the grade VG for the whole course, VG is required in module 1.

Reporting of grades:
Module 1: Written assignments and a short essay - 5.5 cr
Module 2: Seminars - 2 cr

Prerequisites

  • French: Written Proficiency II, 7.5 credits, French Literature II: Up to 1900, 7.5 credits, French: Culture and Society II, 7.5 credits and French II: Introduction to Linguistics and Academic Writing, 7.5 credits on First cycle, or equivalent knowledge
