Beginner Studies in Swedish for International Students IV

Starts week 14, 2020

During the course a simpler literary piece of work and different types of texts of various themes in Swedish are dealt with. The student practices to alternate attention between the form and the contents of a text while reading. Further grammatical aspects of the language on word, sentence, and text levels are developed and the student critically examines and corrects his or her own and others‘ texts. Individual presentations, debates in group as well as written reflections make up an important part of the course. During the course, the student develops his or her knowledge about Swedish society relating it to experiences from his or her home country.

The overall aim of the course is that the student broadens and develops his or her knowledge of the Swedish language. After completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • understand, summarize and discuss the main contents in different types of texts, in simpler literary texts, as well as e.g. popular scientific texts, factual studies and newspapers.
  • apply basic grammatical knowledge by critically examining and improving his or her own and another student‘s text and reflect upon form and content.
  • make individual oral presentations in Swedish in a way that the content is clear.
  • assess, discuss and respond to another person‘s arguments in a relevant and comprehensible way in Swedish.
  • reflect upon various features and phenomena in the Swedish society, relating them to his or her own experiences orally and in writing.
