Learning outcomes for the course

On successful completion of the course, students should be able to:

  • describe the major aspects of Chinese traditional philosophy: metaphysics, politics, legal theory, philosophy of life
  • summarise various schools of thought in ancient Chinese philosophy, such as Confucianism, Taoism, Buddhism, Logicism, Legalism, etc.
  • read and demonstrate an understanding of basic Classical Chinese
  • problematise their own thinking in relation to traditional Chinese philosophy.
