Learning outcomes for the course
Module 1 (Method, 2.5 cr)
Module 1 of the course has two components: a linguistic and a literary. The students him-/herself chooses his/her specialization.
The student who chooses the linguistic component is expected to, in French, be able to:
- describe the basic types of methods used in linguistic research
- apply basic qualitative and quantitative methods to analyze linguistic data
- reflect on these methods.
The student who chooses the literary component is expected to be able to:
- explain some of the basic methods used within literary research
- apply the relevant critical methods for different texts
- reflect on theses methods
Module 2 (Academic writing, 5 cr)
After completing the module, students shall, in French, be able to:
- demonstrate familiarity with the structure of academic texts, which includes the formulation of basic issues, critical review of previous research, choice of method and theory connection, as well as the formation of their own scientifically based arguments
- produce their own short academic text in close to perfect French
- analyze and discuss the scholarly work of others by pointing out strengths as well as shortcomings in the form of constructive feedback.
