Learning outcomes for the course

On completion of the course students will be able to

  • prepare in writing and orally deliver well-structured formal as well as informal presentations in English
  • show an awareness of the variety of linguistic registers (levels of language) within the English language and how they are used, that is, to be able to analyze different communication situations and to use the most suitable register
  • show an awareness of common problems in connection with oral presentations, and how these communication obstacles best can be avoided and prevented
  • analyse the target audience and to adapt the form and content of their presentation in order to achieve the intended result
  • communicate clearly in spoken English within their specific area of interest with both experts and laypersons
  • use a variety of visual resources in an efficient and purposeful way.
