African Studies: Islam and Islamic Societies in Africa

Upon completion of the course, the student shall be able to:

  • demonstrate good knowledge of the history of Islam in Africa
  • demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the relationship between different Islamic orientations, and their relation to surrounding societies in Africa
  • demonstrate comprehensive understanding of relevant theories on the roles of Islam in history and society in Africa
  • demonstrate the ability to independently and critically interpret and analyse processes, mechanisms and strategies within different orientations of Islam in Africa
  • communicate relevant theories and knowledge within this field.

Entry Qualifications:
  • Bachelor Degree of 180 credits in the field of Humanities, Social Sciences or Education and English B/6 from Swedish upper secondary school or equivalent knowledge. No knowledge of Swedish is required.
