After completion of the course the students shall be able to:
  • Explain the significance of failure analysis in engineering design.
  • Design and implement an appropriate strategy to handle the specific failure component
  • Implement detailed root-cause analysis
  • Apply various tools and techniques to identify the failure mechanism
  • Describe the various material factors that cause the failure
  • Propose appropriate corrective and preventive guidelines

Entry Qualifications:
  • Mechanical Properties of Metals 7.5 credits First Cycle or equivalent knowledge
  • Materials and Surface Characterisation 7.5 credits Second Cycle or equivalent knowledge
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical, Metallurgy, Materials Science, Production Engineering) or equivalent degree of at least 180 credits. Documented language proficiency knowledge equivalent to English B/English 6 at Swedish upper secondary school or equivalent knowledge
