Description
The aim is to evaluate the effect and prognostic factors of therapeutic exercise with a high vs. low dosage exercise therapy on pain, quality of life, mental and physical function, return to work, and health economics in patients with knee osteoarthritis. The project adopts a longitudinal RCT-design. In total, 200 patients with X-ray verified knee osteoarthritis will follow a scheduled high vs. low dose treatment protocol 3 times/week for 12 weeks. Self-perceived quality of life, pain, mental function, and objective measures of physical function will be measured at baseline, after treatment and at a six- to 12-month follow-up. A study protocol for this project was recently published in 2018, and the project is registered at ClinicalTrials. Innovation: to add knowledge on whether exercise dose can be related to short- and long-term treatment effects, and how it may be cost-effective. Partners: Collaboration between researchers in Sweden (KI) and Norway (Norwegian University of Science and Technology, NTNU) with data collection sites in Sweden as well as Norway.
