Description
This project is aimed at developing system to improve treatment for persons with Parkinsons Disease. The research is specifically focused on supporting patients taking medicine (Levodopa) in microtablets. This treatment is suitable for patients where the disease has progressed to the point where conventional tablets no longer relieve symptoms effectively but where more intrusive and expensive treatments (often involving operating a device into the patient’s body) are not yet justified.

Microtablets allow finer control of dosage levels, but for the technology to reach its full potential, computerized support systems are required. Symptoms need to be measured accurately and objectively so that the effect of dosage variation can be explored and dosage protocols optimized. Simulation models of pharmacodynamics are needed to predict the effect of a given dosage, both in terms of blood concentration levels and also resultant symptoms.
