Description
This project is a multidisciplinary applied research effort targeting home monitoring of Parkinson's disease symptoms. It is an extension of previous projects (see E-MOTIONS) resulting in a touch phone test battery system consisting of questions and tests of fine motor function. A focus of the PAULINA project is to add a new symptom dimension to the test system, namely speech impairments. This involves verification of a new speech processing method and adjusting it to tele-monitoring conditions. We plan to build a research platform based on the existing test system that can be used for collecting, processing and presenting different types of patient data for research. The project further aims to evaluate the usefulness and usability to health care personnel of the current test system when used in clinical practice. Another part of the project concerns visualization of fine motor performance dynamics by displaying graphs of tapping tests and animated spiral drawings. The aim is to develop and evaluate computer-based methods for enabling quantitative and automatic scoring of alternating tapping performance and separating spiral drawings representing different types of motor dysfunctions.
