Forestry and Wood Technology

Research in the field of forestry and wood technology is currently oriented towards the development of systems for silviculture as a means of facilitating good rejuvenation, growth and quality progress in forests.

We have also conducted research on technical and organizational systems in forestry, wood material science, wood technology and bioenergy. Starting 2014, we plan to integrate research questions related to wood technology and sustainable building.

National Collaboration

Nationally, research is conducted in close collaboration with SLU, KTH and SkogForsk, the Forestry Research Institute of Sweden. We also have an international network of contacts with other universities and research institutes through, for example, participation in many large EU-projects and involvement in IUFRO, the International Union of Forest Research Organizations.

Collaboration with the Forestry Industry

Our subject group has a tradition of close collaboration with the forestry industry and companies such as Stora Enso, Bergvik Skog, Holmen, Sveaskog, Korsnäs and Svenska Skogsplantor, as well as with forest owner organizations. In many cases, cooperation has led to educational and research assignments. For example, cooperation with the Swedish Forest Agency and Mellanskog has helped develop courses at Dalarna University. We also collaborate with municipalities in the region through Gymnasieforskarskolan, our research school for upper-secondary school pupils.
