Background

I have a Master of Architecture and Urban Planning from KTH (The Royal Institute of Technology) 1969 and a Doctoral Degree from KTH in Architecture, complex structures 1974. I am senior guest professor at Dalarna University since 2018 and I have been adjunct professor and guest researcher at Lulea Technical University, KTH and Chalmers in combination with a position as chief architect and urban planner at Sweco Architect where I have been involved in a number of international and Swedish planning commiissions on all levels. I have been research leader for practice oriented R&D project at the Swedish Board for Housing and Planning, The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, The Swedish Energy Agency and The Swedish Association for Regions and Municipalities.

Teaching

I am involved as lecturer and process leader in several courses included in basic education within the building and spatial planning programme at the university, for example sustainable spatial planning, urban design, regional planning, physical planning II and traffic and transportation planning and design. I am also lecturer in the doctoral education for example the doctoral programme Future Proof Cities.

Research

In the R&D project sustainable region I have been involved in the development of methods and tools for spatial planning focusing on resource efficiency outside the major metropolitan areas in Sweden in collaboration with municipal bodies and energy companies in Falun, Borlänge, Mora and Sandviken as well as the regional authority Region Dalarna (Svensson & Ranhagen 2019). The R&D project urban station communities is concerned with the interplay between the built environment and rail-based public transport with case studies in the Gothenburg region. The project is coordinated by Urban Futures at Chalmers (Urban Futures 2022). I have been involved in the development of a design guide for smart streets in collaboration with KTH, Chalmers, VTI, White and Sweco (Ståhle et.al 2022). Energy Innovation Jakobsdalen is a prestudy to a larger R&D project which has been implemented in collaboration with researchers at the University and representatives for Borlänge municipality as a series of workshops where a number of innovative ideas for energy and climate adaptation and mitigation have been developed and evaluated (Andersson et.al 2022). A full list of publications (136) from my R&D during 50 years can be found below).
