My speciality is in Translation Studies, and in both my research and my teaching, I focus mainly on translation of literature and culture, including Japanese popular culture.
I grew up and lived both in Japan and Europe (France, UK and Spain), which eventually led me to work within the field of translation studies. I live in Sweden since 2010, when I started working at Dalarna University. I obtained my B.Sc. degree in Psychology in 1993 (University College London, London University) and M.Sc. degree in Social Psychology in 1994 (London School of Economics and Political Science, London University) before I started working as a translator and interpreter (English-Japanese-Spanish) both in Japan and Spain. In 2009, I obtained Ph.D. degree in Translation Studies from Universidad de Granada (Spain). My doctoral thesis title is “La traducción de onomatopeyas y mímesis japonesas al español y al inglés: los casos de la novela y el manga” (“Translation of Japanese onomatopoeias and mimetic words into Spanish and English: as found in novels and in manga”).
At the Department of Japanese, I teach courses mostly on translation (Japanese-English) and Japanese popular culture (anime and manga). I also supervise B.A. and M.A. level theses in those fields.
My main research areas are literary translation, translation of culture, translation of works of popular culture (especially manga) and translation pedagogy.
