If you are taking courses in Chinese at Dalarna University, then you may well be interested in applying to be an exchange student at a partner university in China.

All Dalarna University students are eligible to apply for exchange programmes at partner universities. Currently we have four partner universities in China: Beijing Jiaotong University, Guangxi Normal University, Tianjin University of Finance and Economics, and Yunnan Normal University. We also have two partner universities on Taiwan, Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages and Tunghai University. You may take courses in Chinese or other subjects (taught in Chinese or English) for one semester or one academic year (full-time).

Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU), formerly known as Northern Jiaotong University, is a university in Beijing, China. It is one of the National Key Universities directly under the Ministry of Education and its campus is located in the vicinity of Xizhimen in Beijing, between the second ring and third ring.

History of the University

BJTU, one of the five Jiaotong Universities in China, was established in 1896. The University has fostered some famous talents in the fields of engineering, science, economics, business and literature.

Available Courses

BJTU is one of the first universities authorized by the Chinese government to enroll overseas students. Now there are nearly 500 overseas students from over 80 countries and regions studying at BJTU.

Our exchange students may study Chinese at the Center for Chinese Language Training. Courses include comprehensive Chinese, Chinese reading, Chinese listening, and Chinese writing. BJTU offers Chinese language courses at six levels. It also offers Business Chinese courses and is one of the examination centers for Business Chinese Test (BCT).

Once students have reached a high level of Chinese, they may enroll in other subject courses that are taught in Chinese. Additionally, BJTU offers Software Engineering courses taught in English.

Municipality of Beijing

Beijing, also known as Peking, is the capital of the People's Republic of China and is one of the most populous cities in the world, with a population of 19,612,368 (2010). The city is the country's political, cultural, and educational center.

Beijing is one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China. It has been the heart of China's history for centuries, and there is scarcely a major building of any age in Beijing that does not have at least some national historical significance.

It is a major transportation hub, with dozens of railways, roads, and motorways routed through the city, and the destination of many international flights to China.

Guangxi Normal University is a teacher college situated in Guilin, in Guangxi province. Guangxi is quite different from other provinces in China, because the majority is not Han Chinese, the majority is the Zhuang minority. The province has been a so called autonomous region since 1958, it is also called Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

History of the University

Guangxi Normal University was founded in 1932. At present, the university has a staff of more than 2,300, among whom there are some distinguished professors of high academic achievements. It enjoys a good reputation among its counterparts in such majors as Chinese language and literature, history, education, chemistry, computer science, theoretical physics and teaching Chinese as a second language.

Available Courses

Our exchange program can offer a full time study for a duration of one semester, with 20 lectures per week, 45 minutes per lecture. Other activities such as sightseeing, visiting are also organized as a part of the course.

GXNU offers Chinese language courses on four levels, as well as HSK/BCT coaching. It also provides one-to-one intensive Chinese programs. GXNU offers short-term Chinese language programs and different culture programs, like: Chinese painting and calligraphy, Chinese folk music and handiwork, minority ethnic mores in Guangxi, etc. They can provide you tours and experiences in folk customs and various extra-curricular activities.

The City of Guilin

Guilin is a historical and tourist city. It lies in the northeastern part of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in South China. It is named after the Sweet Osmanthus trees that is spread over the whole area and give out a fragrance smell when they are in bloom during the fall. The Osmanthus has thus become the city flower of Guilin.

Guilin is famous for its beautiful scenery unique for its Karst topography. The city has a population of 4,747,936.

Tianjin University of Finance and Economics (TJUFE) is one of the principal universities of Tianjin Municipality, one of China's four municipalities. It is proud of its prominent professors and scholars who are well-known in the field of business and economics.

About 40 subjects are offered which can be classified into seven areas: economics, management, science, law, humanities, education, and engineering. Approximately 11 000 undergraduate students and 1 300 graduate students study on campus.

Available Courses

Our students can study Chinese at the School of International Education, TJUFE as exchange students. Their courses include Basic Chinese, Spoken Chinese, Chinese Listening, Chinese Newspaper Reading, Chinese Writing and HSK courses. TJUFE offers Chinese language courses at four levels: elementary, beginner, intermediate, and advanced). TJUFE also offers Business Chinese courses, but students must have passed the third level HSK test (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi, the Chinese Proficiency Test) to study this course.

If students have reached a high level of Chinese, they may enrol in other subject courses taught in Chinese.

Municipality of Tianjin

Tianjin is a metropolis in northern China. It is governed as a direct-controlled municipality and is, thus, under direct administration of the central government. Tianjin borders Hebei Province and Beijing Municipality, bordered to the east by the Bohai Gulf portion of the Yellow Sea. Tianjin has a population of 12 938 224 and an area of 11 760 km2 (4 540.6 sq mi). Only 120 kilometers to its west is the capital city, Beijing.

Tunghai University is located in Taichung City in central Taiwan. The university was founded in 1955 by Mr. Beauson Tseng. It is the first private university in Taiwan.

History of the University

At Tunghai University one can study Chinese at the Chinese Language Center (CLC). The CLC is situated amongst trees, flowers and chirping birds, which makes the campus an excellent place for studying Chinese. The CLC was established in 1971 and was initially intended to serve the family members of Tunghai's foreign faculty. Later, it was expanded to include exchange students and missionaries.

Available Courses

There are three levels of Chinese courses offered at Tunghai University: introductory, intermediate and advanced. The CLC offers such courses as 'daily conversation', 'business Chinese', 'newspaper reading' and 'media classes'.
The City of Taichung
The university is located in Taichung City, Taiwan's third largest city which has a vibrant urban atmosphere, cultural events and convenient public transportation. Taichung City is approximately one hour from Taipei City by high speed train.

Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages is located in Kaohsiung city, Taiwan. It is close to a famous vacation center Kenting National Park.

History of the University

Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages was founded by the sisters of the Roman Union of the Order of St. Ursula in 1966. It was named in honor of Wenzao Lo, the first Chinese Bishop. Wenzao is known for its commitment to excellence in foreign languages teaching and research.

Available Courses

Our students may study Chinese at the Center of Chinese Language (CLC), WUUL as exchange students. Their courses include "Daily Life Conversation", "Writing and Composition", "Business and Newspaper Readings" and other courses such as "Calligraphy", "Painting" and "Discussion about Chinese cultural differences". WUUL offers Chinese language courses at three levels: Basic level, Intermediate level (nine stages in basic and intermediate levels) and Advanced level.

The City of Kaohsiung

Kaohsiung City (a marine metropolitan city with its abundant geographical features of hills, ocean, river and harbor, is rich in humanistic and natural resources for tourism) is one of the five special municipalities under the administration of the Republic of China (Taiwan). Located in southern-western Taiwan and facing the Taiwan Strait, it is by area the largest municipality, and second most populous (by urban area) with a population of approximately 2.77 million. Since its start at 17th century, Kaohsiung has grown from a small trading village, into the political, economic, transportation, manufacturing, refining, shipbuilding, and industries centers of southern Taiwan.

Yunnan Normal University (YNNU) is located in the capital city of Kunming in Yunnan Province, south-west China.

History of the University

YNNU was established in 1938 as the National Normal College of Southwestern Union University based at Beijing University, Tsinghua University, and Nankai University. It was named National Kunming Normal College in 1946 when the faculties returned to the North. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, it was named Kunming Normal College. In April 1984, with the approval of Yunnan Provincial Government, it was renamed Yunnan Normal University.

Our students may study Chinese at the School of International Chinese Studies (SICS), YNNU as exchange students. Their courses include comprehensive Chinese, spoken Chinese, Chinese reading, Chinese listening, Chinese idioms and Chinese culture. YNNU offers Chinese language courses at seven levels: pre-elementary level, elementary level, beginner level, pre-intermediate level, intermediate level, pre-advanced level and advanced level.

The City of Kunming

Kunming is the capital and largest city of Yunnan Province. It is the political, economic, communication and cultural centre of Yunnan and the seat of the provincial government. It covers an area of 21 473 km² (8 291 sq mi) and its urban area covers 2 081 km². Kunming has a population of 6 432 212 including 3 055 000 in the urban area. Kunming consists of an old previously walled city, a modern commercial district, and residential and university areas.

Kunming is not only as the provincial centre of Yunnan but is also well-known for its beautiful and unique natural landscape. Here you can find the Stone Forest, Dianchi Lake, the Golden Temple, and the famous Buddhist Qiongzhu Temple (Bamboo Temple). Rail and air are the main two transportation methods to and from Kunming from outside Yunnan. Kunming is served by an international airport located about four kilometres southeast of central Kunming.
