Students, teachers, researchers, collaborative partners and other professionals are invited to attend the upcoming conference “Rethinking Higher Education: Inspired by the Sustainable Development Goals”. The one-day conference will serve as a meeting place and allow for informative discussion on how to put into action the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into our educational programmes and courses.
There is no fee to take part, and lunch and coffee/tea (no cost) will be included as part of the conference activities. The conference will be held in English.
The first such conference was held in spring 2019 at Karolinska Institutet and had about 700 attendees, from both Swedish institutions of higher education and other parts of the world. The aim with this year's conference is to establish a clearer picture of what can be developed within higher education to support the reaching of these global goals.
This point of departure for the 2020 conference is how universities can implement those components that were identified in 2019. Speakers include Arjen Wals, Professor in Socio-Ecological Sustainability at Wageningen University, the Netherlands, and Matilda Ernkrans, Minister for Higher Education and Research.
The conference will take place on March 28 at the University of Gothenburg, with attendees taking part at satellite meetings at four other institutions of higher education: Dalarna University is one of these four. You can attend the lectures from Campus Falun, or by distance using Zoom, in collaboration with other Dalarna University teachers and students.
You register your attendance on this webpage if you plan to take part from Campus Falun (see link to registration below).
The conference will take place on Saturday, March 28, from 9.00 to 16.30. As an attendee from Dalarna Univeristy, you can take part in two ways:
- From Campus Falun. Together we will follow the lectures and presentations on a large screen. We will sit in small groups for the afternoon workshop on campus. Lunch and coffee/tea, etc. will be complementary to attendees (note, limited number of spaces: first to register-principle applies).
- On Zoom. You will follow the lectures and presentations on your own. When it is time for the workshop, you are invited into a Zoom room together with other online participants from Dalarna University, where you will be split into small groups for discussion. Complementary lunch and coffee/tea are not offered for online attendees.
In Gothenburg, 10 workshops will be arranged, divided by three themes: 1) Tools, Resources and Concrete Measures; 2) Future Workforce; and 3) Partnerships. It is likely that we will be unable to work with all three themes in Falun, which is why we would like you to state in your registration which theme you would most like to discuss: Read more about the themes for the workshops.
The conference set to be held on March 28 has been postponed as a result of the coronavirus situation and the rules that are now in place at Swedish institutions of higher education. Registered participants will receive information by way of email. We apologise for any convenience that this decision may cause.
