About Falun
Welcome to Falun and Dalarna!
There are many things for you to do and see while here, apart from attending the conference.
Falu Copper Mine – this was once Europe’s largest mine for copper. It operated for 1000 years, before closing in 1992. Today it is a World Heritage Site. It holds guided tours year-round. Visitors must be able to walk without assistance (as there are many steps and ladders). The mine is dirty, and you will need sturdy shoes and warm clothes: you can borrow a rain cape and helmet at the mine. A tour takes about one hour.
The mine is located about a 40-minute walk from the University that takes you through the town centre. Buses run on a regular basis from campus to the town centre.
Picturesque areas, museums, churches or outdoor activities? There are several options for a day out or just for a few hours. Visit the Visit Dalarna website for ideas.
