Its further aim is to contribute to the ongoing development of the research base for education within this subject field.
DUCID conducts research in the field of intercultural studies and offers commissioned education opportunities to external organisations, while also holding debate evenings and conferences that have a wide focus on issues such as cultural pluralism and cultural diversity. It maintains a critical perspective in its examination of present-day social structures and thought systems.

The centre is headed by IKUD-rådet (DUCID Committee, unofficial translation), with representatives from Dalarna University, Borlänge Municipality, Falu Municipality, Dalarna County Council and and civil society: see DUCID Committee below.
The Chairperson of the Committee is the Director of DUCID.

Society at large will regard Dalarna University Centre for Intercultural Research and Development (DUCID) as a self-evident and valuable partner for dialogues on questions concerning cultural pluralism that directly relate to the concepts of interculturalism, cultural identity and cultural representation.
The purpose of the centre is both to promote collaboration between the University and municipalities, county councils, official bodies, civil society and businesses, as well as to contribute to the ongoing development of the research base for education within this subject field.
By way of the centre, the University is able to gather its internal and external contacts, and embark on research assignments and educational opportunities related to the following: ethnicity, language and linguistic competence, intercultural expertise, religion, gender, equality, class, cultural representation and depictions in media and literature, cultural pluralism, identity constructions, stereotypes, discrimination, majority-minority relations, human rights, social sustainability, migration-integration-alienation, language development, Swedish as a Second Language, advanced reading comprehension, democracy, social polarization, ideological extremism, challenges faced by authorities and the effects of in-migration on society.
