Learning outcomes for the course

On successful completion of the course, students will, in modern Japanese, be able to:

  • read and understand authentic texts about Japanese society, culture and history
  • give an account of and discuss different themes within these subject areas and use adequate vocabulary
  • make a detailed argument, in speech and writing, supporting their opinions
  • follow a conversation in which fairly specialized vocabulary is used and which is carried out at normal speed
  • explain different nuances in the language.
