Application Exchange Students/Freemovers

Are You a Freemover or an Exchange Student?

How you make your application to study with us depends on whether you are a freemover or an exchange student.

Freemovers

International applicants who apply independently for our courses or programmes are usually called "freemovers" (note that Dalarna University does not collaborate with agencies). Freemovers usually apply for a whole programme with the intention of attaining their degree from us. If this describes you, then you are a freemover, not an exchange student.

Once a freemover arrives at our university, then Dalarna University becomes his or her home university (regardless of any previous academic studies elsewhere).

Exchange Students

Exchange students come here for shorter study periods and must be nominated by one of our many partner universities. You may come as an exchange student as part of the Erasmus exchange programme, the Nordplus network or a bilateral agreement we have with your home university.

Once a student is nominated to study with us, it is necessary for him or her to apply for the exchange period through our International Office (exchange students DO NOT apply through universityadmissions.se). Exchange students usually study with us for one or two semesters, after which time they return to their home universities to complete their studies and to receive their degree.
