Energy, Forests and Built Environments

This profile field of research focuses on sustainable energy systems, sustainable forest management and sustainable buildings.

The basis of this research profile is engineering and natural sciences. There are also important research activities in social science, which contributes to an understanding of how organisations, companies and private individuals affect social processes in the conversion to a sustainable society.

The engineering sciences research is active in solar heat and solar electricity, effective energy usage in buildings and in industry. The research in natural sciences is focused on bio-energy from forests and the cultivation process of forests.

Most of the projects are run in close collaboration with companies working with energy technology, electricity and heat supply, construction and forests.

Until 2013, this research profile will receive significant support from the European Union’s Strukturfond Mål 2 Norra Mellansverige so that it can both develop collaborative research with business and industry in the region as well as augment the laboratory resources and the senior competence in the field of energy research.
