Statistics

Statistics deals with collecting, organizing, analysis and interpreting data from a large collection of objects. Conclusions that can be drawn regarding the large collection of objects based on data from a small number of studied objects attract special interest. The basic statistics courses treat parts like for instance Probability Calculus, Combinatorial Analysis, tests of hypotheses, Simulation and Statistic Applications.

Within the Engineering programmes so called mathematical statistics mainly dealing with applications of probability calculus is studied. Courses studied on the social sciences programmes, however, are focusing more onto descriptive statistics. Teaching is made up of lectures, exercises and computer experiments.
