Sound and Music Production

There is no escape from recorded music today – it can reach present-day human being anywhere. The subject Sound Production offers courses that not only teaches how to produce sound and music with state of the art tools, but also offer insight into the function and significance of recorded music in today’s society. In short, the courses prepare the students for a professional life with recorded music at the centre stage: sound and music as merchandise, as artistic expression and as a research topic.

Sound- and music production has been taught at Högskolan Dalarna since 1993. Sound Production has been a Major (main subject) since the year 2004, with courses up to D-level. Teaching is mainly conducted in the media building – Mediehuset, at the regiment’s area in Falun. This modern house is fully equipped with digital sound studios and a radio studio. The education rests on solid scientific ground, but the subject should also stimulate artistic development for the students, which is done in production oriented project work.
