Sociology is a social science for investigation and analyze different types of social relations and processes – ranging from global relations and society changes through the course of history - to peoples’ everyday meetings, histories of their lives and identities.
Sociologists do research on power relations, gender relations, social inequality, ethnic conflicts, youth culture, mass media, childrens’ development, normality/deviation, environmental issues, working life, housing, political sociology and the sociology of the body and many other things. Many different methods are employed in the research, such as questionnaires, interviews, participating observations and text analysis.
The study of Sociology provides competence in all professional areas where knowledge of society, social conditions and relations are important.
Special application areas of interest at Högskolan Dalarna are: political sociology, normality theory, feminist sociology and sports sociology.
