Music

All people have their music, and have had it through all times. The word music stems from the Greek word mousiké, which a close translation of would be approximately “art of the muses” (the nine daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne). This opens up a more profound interpretation of the concept of music than the mere combination of notes.

Within the subject Music at Högskolan Dalarna we work with voice, playing, movement and expression in combination, and connecting this to theory and current research.

The courses are pedagogically/didactically oriented. The subject Music provides tools for an understanding of today’s multi faceted music life, but also an insight into music’s development over time. The subject Music also includes musical theory, the learning of music’s construction elements, which constitutes the subject’s practical element.
