Medical Science
The subject area comprises several subjects which together aim to create knowledge of the build and function of the human body, and pathological changes including medical diagnostics and treatment.
Subjects included are anatomy (learning of the build of the healthy human body), physiology (learning of the function of the healthy human body), pathology (learning of pathological changes in organs and the build of the organ systems) and pathophysiology (learning of pathological changes in the organs and function of the organ systems). Other subjects included are pharmacology (learning of the conversion and effect of pharmaceutical preparations) and micro biology (learning of various microbes such as bacteria and viruses). The subject area also includes preventive medicine (preventive health care).
Within the subjects respectively there is theoretical as well as practical training of skills as far as examination technique and treatment methods are concerned.
Medical Science is part of several study programmes and single subject courses at Högskolan Dalarna. Within the Bachelor of Science in Nursing programme there is teaching in Medical Science integrated with general and specific nursing while within the framework of the Biology Teacher and the Physical Education programme there is predominantly teaching with a didactical orientation.
