Daunfeldt and Rudholm on Central Bank Independence and Inflation

21 Apr 2010 17:00

Sven-Olof Daunfeldt, associate professor in Economics at Dalarna University and researcher at the Ratio Institute, and Niklas Rudholm, professor at Dalarna University, presented a study on the effects of central bank independence at the annual conference of the Midwest Political Science Association in Chicago on April 21st to 25th 2010.

In the study, "Central Bank Independence and Price Stability Reform: The Role of Democracy and Political Stability", Sven-Olov Daunfeldt, David Granlund, Mats Landström and Niklas Rudholm showed that the inflationary impact of having an independent central bank is greater in democratic nations that have a history of political instability than in comparable countries.
