On the first week of May we received the visit of PhD K. Ali Akkemik from Baskent University. He held two seminars: "Analysis of Post-1980 Export-led Growth Strategy in Turkey" and "Productivity and Growth in Japan".

K Ali Akkemik received his PhD in international development from Nagoya University (Japan) in 2006. He then joined the Department of Economics at Baskent University, Ankara, Turkey in October 2007. Ali Akkemik has published several articles, delivered several lectures, and written book chapters about industrial policies, structural changes, and productivity in East Asia and Turkey. His current research interests are East Asian industrial policies, regionalization in Asia, general equilibrium modeling, productivity analysis, electricity market reforms in Turkey, and trade and macroeconomic policies of Turkey. He teaches international economics and macroeconomics at Baskent University.
