Comparative Literature
Comparative Literature brings about knowledge of pure literature stretching from the ancient world to modern times. The subject widens and provides for a more profound understanding of the literary texts, and the role of literature in society is also observed. A number of different research orientations are represented at Högskolan Dalarna, such as the study of older and more recent literature, gender research, narratology, literature for children and younger readers.
Högskolan Dalarna offers courses in Comparative Literature on levels A to D. On the A and B courses there are three forms of study. Student teachers may, like all other students, choose freely between the three study forms:
- Variant directed towards teacher education. The course emphasizes literature for children and younger readers, popular literature and literature didactic questions.
- Variant directed towards popular epic poetry and film. The particular means of expression in popular literature and film are studied here.
- Research preparatory variant. Literature methodical and literature theoretical reflection is emphasized. All three variants start out with the study of the history of drama.
