Educational Programme for Sound and Music Production, 180 ECTS-credits

Sound and Music Production Programme at Dalarna University is the biggest Swedish educational programme in its field and one of the biggest Swedish educational programmes in music.

Sound and Music Production Programme is adapted to meet the fast development in sound and music technology. Today, a small group of people, or even a single person, with modest equipment can carry out productions that previously required greater human resources and extensive equipment. Our programme prepares students for this new situation. To start with, our programme covers a very broad selection of topics that reflect the many sides of sound and music production. We offer courses, for example, on recording in studio, live-sound, radio production and sound design for moving pictures and computer games.

In order to train capable and truly independent professionals in an ever-changing field, our educational programme combines a hands-on perspective on production and an analytical perspective on research. Many production assignments, as well as assignments that involve analyzing existing sound and music productions, therefore, have both theoretical and practical parts. The scientific disciplining exists in all courses to some degree, but mostly in courses where students write papers and degree projects. At the last phase of the programme there is a long internship course where students are placed in different workplaces.

Students write a degree project during the fifth term of the programme. After completing the project and studies corresponding to 180hp, they are ready to apply for a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sound and Music Production. Upon the completion of the programme, the students have good theoretical insight, practical skills and a realistic understanding of carrier opportunities in the field of sound and music production.
