Commissioned Education: What Can We Offer the Private and Public Sectors?

Do you require help with your written English or your business German? Do you havepersonnel from abroad who need to improve their Swedish? Would you like to know more about Chinese or Japanese culture?

For many, communication in other languages and with other cultures is an everyday occurrence. Dalarna University can help your organisation or business with this communication by offering tailor-made education in 11 languages, for which your personnel can also receive higher education credits.

To meet your needs, we offer flexible education: seminars, project work, lectures, mentors, part-time courses, intensive courses. Furthermore, you decide where the learning takes place: on campus or at your premises. Net-based learning is also possible. The following information gives you examples of possible learning opportunities.

Arabic: Conversation

By means of conversation practice, listening exercises, and roleplay, participants are introduced to spoken Arabic. Focus is on everyday communication and basic conversational skills.

Business Chinese

"Everything goes well with you."Participants learn expressions appropriate for formal situations such as greeting, introduction, apology, and congratulation. They learn how to use a Pinyin Chinese-English dictionary while gaining insight into business traditions and business etiquette through discussion and study.


English: A Communicative Course

Equal focus is placed on the four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Various types of texts are used, from newspaper articles to literary excerpts, for discussion and comprehension purposes. Attention is given to the differing needs of the individual participant by means of written and oral communicative exercises.

English: Business Package

Participants choose from four modules:

 1. Oral Communication, which gives participants the opportunity to develop their business and social English;

2. Presentation Technique, which prepares participants for informal and formal presentations;

3. Cultural Influences on Business, which focuses on globalization and its effect on how business is conducted; and

4. General and Business Writing Skills, which has participants consider common errors, written style, and cultural influences on writing.

English: Oral and Written Proficiency

Big Ben, London, EnglandTranslation and reading comprehension practice are combined with oral discussions that focus on subject areas pertinent to the company's or organization's area of interest and expertise.

English: Oral Presentation

In workshops, participants discuss the theory of presenting and practise presenting on subjects related to their own professional field. Areas of focus are as follows: common communication problems in a second language; audience analysis; cultural influences; material preparation; and delivery techniques.

English: Written Proficiency

This course offers classroom instruction, mentorship, and workshops as means in which participants learn both to recognize and to eliminate their frequent errors, as well as to improve their general written English. Focus is on communication related to the participants' professional lives—for example, research projects and presentations.

German for the Business World: Course Package

Focus is on language that is useful for communication in the business world. Participants, who should have a basic knowledge of German, improve their skills by taking the following theme-based courses:

Course One: Presentation and Conversation: Social and Business German

Course Two: Telephone and E-mail

Course Three: Work-Related Situations

Japanese for Beginners

Participants learn how to express themselves at the basic level with good pronunciation and an understanding of Japanese grammar. Study also involves reading and writing the two phonetic scripts hiragana and katakana. The cultural codes of daily situations make for an important element of the course.

Russian for Business

By means of speaking exercises, participants practise communicating in various work-related situations. They learn how to read and understand business-related texts while improving their speaking and listening skills. Grammar study is also important to the course, providing participants with an understanding as to the structure of the Russian language.

Swedish for Academics

Participants improve their spoken and written communication skills through discussion, description, summary, reporting and debating. Cultures and society in Sweden constitute an important theme in the course literature, as does the education system. The course looks at study techniques and fundamental theories about language acquisition. Participants develop their ability to analyse, read critically and discuss various genre. An active vocabulary is broadened by means of reading and exercises in vocabulary development. Participants also examine the structure of Swedish, practise their conversation skills and reflect on linguistic questions. Pronunciation practice is ongoing.
