Commissioned Education: Questions and Answers

Swedish universities are not businesses and as such special rules apply as to how they sell education and as to who their clients can be.

Who can purchase education from Dalarna University?

Employers and legal representatives may purchase education. Clients can be, for example, companies, authorities, educational institutions, and local governments. Non-profit organisations and private individuals may not purchase education.

An organisation for companies and local governments may purchase education for their member organisations on the condition that course participants are their employees.

Who can participate in commissioned education?

The employer or person who purchases the education decides on the participant.

Must participants be formally eligible / qualified?

Certain qualifications may be recommended and certain skills necessary if participation in a particular course is to be worthwhile. That being said, participants do not need formal university eligibility or qualifications.

Can participants receive university credit?

Everyone who has completed a credit course and who has taken the relevant examination has a right to receive credit. This is the case regardless of whether the participant is formally qualified to take the course. Commissioned education can also be non-credit; instead of credit, participants receive written documentation as proof of participation.

What can Dalarna University offer by way of commissioned education?

Dalarna University can offer its regular courses (and programmes) as commissioned education. Education can also be tailored to fit the needs of the paying client both in terms of educational content and mode of instruction: for example, workshops, tutorials, net-based lessons, and lectures.

Can individual places in regular courses be purchased?

Individual places in regular courses can be purchased so long as places are available at the start of the respective course.

When and where does instruction take place?

Time and location are agreed upon by  Dalarna University and the client. The exception is when the participant has a place in a regular course of study in which case the set timetable must be followed.

How does Dalarna University set its prices?

Prices are set according to the principle of Full-Cost Coverage.
