Learning Outcomes

The course aims to develop basic knowledge of French and the French-speaking world.
On completion of the course the French student should be able to:

• describe and discuss some events and aspects of the history of France
• describe France‘s geographical aspects and features
• describe the concept of “la Francophonie“ and its importance
• describe and discuss some important aspects of culture and politics in contemporary French society
• describe, and discuss verbally and in writing topics relating to France or the French-speaking world
• understand and use information technology as a source of knowledge and resource for language learning
• demonstrate independence in their studies and reflect on their own learning.

Course Content

The course includes the study of French history, geography and society. It also looks at aspects of culture and society in France and the French-speaking world, which is why comparisons are also made with students‘ own cultural experiences.

Assessment

Continuous assessment through active participation in seminars, assignments and oral presentations.

Forms of Study

Teaching is conducted through online seminars in which students are expected to participate actively. Instruction is in French.

Grades

The Swedish grades U - VG

To get the grade of VG for the whole course VG is required on at least 4,5 cr.

Reporting of grades:
Mom. 1 An oral presentation, 3 credits
Mom. 2 Written presentation, 4.5 credits

Prerequisites

  • General entrance requirements and English B and French B at Swedish upper secondary school, or equivalent knowledge.
    French B can be replaced by French Preparatory Course II, 7.5 hec at Högskolan Dalarna.
    No knowledge of Swedish is required.
