International Relations - Distance course

In today’s globalized world every field of endeavour can have an international dimension. Therefore the study of international relations can be of use no matter what career you are pursuing. The International Relations package of 30 hp consists of 4 courses:
I: International Relations: an introduction, 7.5hp: the course introduces you to the major international political events since 1945 as well as the major theoretical perspectives of the discipline, enabling you to apply these theories on international events, historical as well as current. Questions of war and peace will be discussed especially from the perspective of possibilities and limitations of international institutions to regulate these major issues of International Relations.
II: Globalization – meanings and consequences, 7.5hp: The course deals with the concept of globalization and raises questions on the challenge of global survival and sustainable development. The different perspectives on the meanings and consequences of globalization on the society and the individual are highlighted in order to show the multifaceted dimension of the concept.
III: EU: institutions and politics, 7.5hp: the course will give you basic knowledge about the historical evolution of the EU and how the supranational and intergovernmental aspects of both institutions and policy areas have worked in parallel. Insights into the decision-making processes, formal as well as informal, will be given. Limitations as well as possibilities of the Union will be discussed especially from the perspective of the democratic deficit as well as the enlargement processes.
IV: International terrorism, 7.5hp: The course gives you insight into how terrorism has evolved from a historical perspective. Also, basic knowledge of the different types of terrorism is given as well as illustrations of how the concept pf terrorism can be used differently according to various settings. Also, you will acquire knowledge of how some of the major theories analyze and explain the phenomenon of terrorism from different perspectives.
